For my first school disco, during the 1980s, I was resplendent in striped legwarmers, a blue drop-waisted mini dress and blue Avon eye shadow stolen from my mother.
Tonight my son, a mere infant of 6, attended his first disco at school. He had a delightful time bopping around to Abba and the Nutbush with other 5 to 7 year olds. Sometimes he danced solo, and other times he danced in a circle, holding hands with some of his little classmates.
Afterwards he said that today was the best day ever.
John Travolta, eat your heart out.

Oh no, there was no dancing in my young life. No dancing in my adult life as a result!
No, I grew up as a missionary kid, in a third world country, in a town with lots of Christian Brethren missionaries. No dancing. Lots of other fun stuff instead.
Awww, how cute.
Blue Avon eye shadow LOL.
I remember it well....and leg warmers (mine were black with silver lurex threads through them).
Yep, the preps disco nights are another milestone in our fast-growing kids' lives.
I remember my first school dance. I was in high school, (there'd been other dances, but I'd never bothered to go), I sat on the seats lining the wall for most of the night until a teacher finally took pity on me and asked me to dance. Halfway around the floor the heel broke off my shoe, necessitating a return to the chairs where I remained until my dad picked me up at 11pm. I never attended another dance. Ever.
Hi again
I was a member of the surf lifesaving club as a kid and they had regular 'sock dances' in the 80s.
I remember winning a packet of chips for being the best dancer once. That was cool.
I didn't dance with boys, only with other girls.
So much fun - I remember 'Nutbush' and 'YMCA' etc.
