And on these cold, wintry nights, rugs and pillows are even more important. They are living room essentials.

The house we are renting is particularly cold and dark. The windows are small, the eaves wide and the rooms are painted in dark colours. When we buy a house, natural light is one of the top items on my list of priorities!

Our dark leather sofas definitely benefit from the addition of colour. I have added pink, cream, green and white accents with a rosy theme.
With its red rose leadlight windows, a rosy theme was the obvious choice in this room.

The rose pillow above is a European pillow in a Laura Ashley design. My youngest son and I snuggle against these pillows each evening, a rug over our knees, while he practises reading out loud.

I chose the rose pillow above because I like the photo of the rose on it. It's actually an outdoor, canvas pillow but I keep it indoors. One day, when I have a front porch with white wicker furniture, I will take this cushion outside and lean against it as I sip my iced coffee on those long, summer evenings.
Some of the smaller items in the room are the chess board, which is used almost every day,
a silver bowl of rose-scented pot-pourri,

very cozy :) how is your job going? are you adjusting?
have a great weekend!
Roses are a beautiful and comforting flower. I love how you have added so many simple rose touches to your living room. It makes renting a touch easier when you can add your own personality to the decor. I hope you are enjoying your winter. Summer is in full swing here...100 degrees farenhite today! I can only dream of winter! =)

Hi Missy,
The job is going well, although it's very tiring. I am now working 8-3, Mon-Thurs.

Hey!
Well I am going to find you a VERY good recipe for "Red Velvet Cake"...one of the ladies I work with makes the BEST one I've ever had. Although there are a few versons of the recipe out there.
This is a FAVORITE cake of many, many people down South. I never ate it before when we lived up North at all...but it's huge here.
And it's soooooo tastey!
Yikes....I just still can't believe it's WINTER down under.
HA!
It's sooooo hot here. Blah!
I'll be back with you real soon.
I love the rose theme! A touch of summer in the midst of cold weather--so cozy!
I feel the same as you about natural light. Hubby and I are at cross-purposes, though--he wants the blinds closed all the time in the bedroom and would love it if there was less light in the living room so he could see the TV better.
If we EVER move again (not in my plans, I'm going to find some little windowless room to put him in and I'll have lots of light in the rest of the house!
