French Toast for Breakfast

My beautiful daughter made French toast for breakfast today and it was delicious. This was not a recipe I taught her. Indeed, I think it is the first time I have ever eaten French toast.

The recipe came from an old Woman's Weekly cookbook and we thoroughly recommend it - especially when drizzled with maple syrup.

French Toast

4 thick slices white bread, crusts removed
1 egg
1 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp sugar
30g butter
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Combine egg, water and 2 tsp of the sugar and beat with a fork until combined. Melt butter in a medium frying pan on medium heat. Dip bread rounds quickly in egg mixture, one by one, letting extra mixture run off, then carefully place the bread in the pan. Cook for about 2 minutes until lightly browned underneath, then turn and cook on the other side. Remove from pan. Combine remaing sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over both sides of French toast. Serve hot.

French toast is one of our favorite breakfast treats. We love ours with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

I don't seem to have any good breakfast recipes, as we are cereal eaters on the run in the mornings. I do enjoying fixing all of our favorite breakfast foods for supper at night. I'll have to look and see what I can pull up.

Hope all is well!

We love french toast ~ some of us have it with tomato sauce and some of us have it with maple syrup...so I just mix eggs and milk to dunk the bread slices in. Works fine with my rye bread too.

I must confess special breakfasts are a rarity saved for overnight guests or weekends away. Otherwise, I'm currently on a greek yoghurt and frozen (defrosted!) blueberries kick at the moment. My breakfast of choice is always toast with real butter and raspberry jam though. Such a shame my metabolism prefers the yoghurt!

Tracy,
I love toast with butter and raspberry jam too - better than any other jam.
