A cold autumn evening was the perfect opportunity to try out one of our fireplaces. And toasting marshmallows on sticks proved to be an activity that everyone was keen to join in.
The kids are sitting on the floor partly because the grate is very small and they needed to get close, and partly because the room still doesn't have much furniture.
Although an outdoor campfire is a more authentic place to toast marshmallows, we were happy to shelter from the rain and chilly air.

This house doesn't have a fireplace, but the last one did, and the first fire of the season always prompted a marshmallow roast. My husband thought we were nuts, but he never had a problem joining our daughter and me in eating those yummy treats!
what a wonderful picture :) are you getting settled in? remember how much i loved your chickens? well, my oldest daughter (17) came home last week with a baby chicken!!!! it's adorable, but i don't think it's even legal to have chickens in the city. i think she'll have to take it back to the pet store. it's been fun having a little chick, but it's going to get big and need lots of attention soon.
We've done this heaps lately, so comforting to sit in front of a crackling fire. And the kids (and grownups) love the sticky, sweet and goey treat.
How fun! We've been known to do them in the oven on top of graham crackers (C:
