Excited About Seeds

Now that the days are growing longer I am getting super-excited about my spring vegetable garden.  I can hardly wait to have tomatoes and sweetcorn and peppers and cucumbers waiting to be picked just outside my back door.   This will be my first vegie patch since we moved to Adelaide and my fingers are very, very itchy to get working.

Unfortunately, it's far too early to plant summer vegies but I can still think, plan and dream.

I can also keenly watch the growth of the things I have already planted: broccoli and onions, garlic, broadbeans, radishes, cos lettuces and silverbeet (Swiss chard).  On the weekend I even planted out a few early potatoes under compost and straw.

By the way, is it 'veggie' or 'vegie'?

I always thought the latter spelling was correct until I saw the kids' TV show Veggie Tales, and now I alternate between the two - which is traumatic for a spelling pedant such as myself.

Do you grow your own vegetables?  If so, what kinds?

Fun fun fun - We love to grow tomatoes - One time we grew gourds to make bird houses - they take over !!!!

I long for a vegie garden too...but I want to move ours to a spot under the family room windows. I'm thinking a corrugated iron surround might be the way to go ~ a quick install that will require little work on Dh's part!

I spell it vegie. I wonder whether the double 'g' is the US way...just like they drop the double letter when adding ed or ing to lots of words. I started to doubt myself about those things too.

Vegetable only has one 'g' so I figure the shortened form should only have one as well.

Vegie is vegie lol.
We got a few silverbeet, tomatoes, Russian garlic, spring onions and celery plants happening.
Spring is hitting early (Winter came in like a lion so it's going out like a lamb, old weather saying from UK).

Well, in the states we spell it Veggie, at least that's how I've always spelled it.

My veggie garden is doing pretty good. I really just threw it in this year without giving it much thought.

It's always been 'vegie' for me...but now I'm wondering too!

We had a small vegie garden at our last house, but have yet to work out where we can put one in our current home.

There's nothing like home-grown vegetables.

It was always 'vegies' here until we started reading American blogs!

This is a good time to be getting the vegie beds ready. I don't know about Adelaide but in Sydney early summer crops go in in September.
