As a backyard vegetable (herb?), rocket has much to recommend it. It grows strongly throughout the southern winter when the rest of the vegie patch is pretty bare. Its peppery leaves are delicious in salads; it can be steamed as a vegetable or mixed into a risotto; and it makes a fabulous pesto with walnuts or pecans.
Today I made one of my favourite salads using some of the rocket in the garden. Simply scatter rocket onto a flat dish, shave some parmesan over the top (I use a vegetable peeler to do this), then drizzle over a simple vinaigrette. Yum!
What have you harvested this week?

Oh yum, like that sound of that, for some reason hadn't tried rocket like that, will have to give it a go
Rocket is not popular at all in our house. The flavour is too strong and it's one of the few things the kids object strongly too. I don't mind it mixed with other salad leaves.
I'm only harvesting herbs...such is the lack of a vegetable garden around here.
That's good to know. I grew it in the summer here and it turned all milky and gross. I guess I'll plant some more in the fall and see if it turns out better!
I like rocket this way to, but alas I am the only one in the family that does.Oh well more for me!!
This week I have harvested beetroot & bottled them -forgeting to put any sugar in my pickling vinegar-Mmmm don't ask. I have also picked the last of the gourds & pumpkins that have been sitting out on the frost bitten vine for longer than is right.
Love it, it goes great in wraps and mixed with other greens in hot meals.
