After my post about the winter-flowering lavender in my garden, Tanya asked for ideas for things to do with lavender.
Here are my suggestions.
Here are my suggestions.
The best thing to do with lavender is enjoy its presence in your garden and its scent as you brush past..
If you must cut it back, you could make lavender sachets to scent your drawers and deter moths, or if you're lazy like me you could make lavender socks. Lavender is also an important component of homemade potpourri.
If you are sure your lavender has not been sprayed you could make lavender tea.
If you are a bath-lover, you could make old-fashioned aromatic bath oil for your bath.
If you like your linen lavender-scented, you could make a bottle of luscious lavender linen water.

If you don't have fresh lavender but like lavender essential oil, you could use it to scent homemade multipurpose cleaner, or use it in an oil burner.
If you are a soap maker you could make a batch of lavender soap.
Some people make lavender scones - but they don't appeal to me very much. I don't really like the idea of eating lavender.

That's all I can think of. What else could you do with lavender?

I have seen these before but I finally found a tutorial on how to make Lavender Bottles on the Needleprint blog. Check it out at

At the moment, I don't have one lavender bush in my garden - I pulled them out because they were all woody and straggly. Maybe time to plant some more. I have tried lavender icecream before but found it weird that you are tasting something you normally smell.

Hi Kate,
thanks for stopping by my blog.
I feel your pain as far as finding chooks that aren't Isa Browns! Now, the place on Cross Rd, I don't have the exact address, but it's between South Rd and Marion Rd. Google maps says its approximately 437 Cross Rd. Its opposite a petrol station if that helps.
I also found this: http://www.sapoultryassoc.org.au/new-page-24.htm
which is a list of poultry breeders in SA which I guess you can call if you don't have any luck with the people on Cross Rd.
BTW, that is a beautiful shot of a lovely flower. I just love lavender!
I haven't done this yet, but I have lavender drying in my closet right now and plan to make one of these next weekend:

Just a different kind of sachet. I sponsor a little girl in Bangladesh, and a teenager in El Salvador, and all I can send them through the mail are paper products, because anything else usually gets stolen in customs. This little project from Delia seems to be perfect for them!
+Thanks! These are some great suggestions... And any use for lonely socks is always welcome - I have a bag of them that I have saved for some yet to discover new purpose :)
Thanks for the link back too!
