On the weekend my husband and I saw the King's Speech, and I thoroughly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet. Everything about this film was exceptional: the sets, the clothes, the script, and the performances.
Despite not looking in the least like King George VI, Colin Firth was superb in the lead role. Of course, he is my favourite actor, so my opinion should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
However, the entire ensemble of actors was superb. Geoffrey Rush played the pioneering speech therapist Lionel Logue with great sympathy and panache, and Helena Bonham Carter made an exemplary Queen Mother in a role very different from her usual quirky and manic characters (think Harry Potter's Bellatrix Lestrange and Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts.)
I was also thrilled to see Jennifer Ehle as Lionel Logue's wife. Is this the first time she has acted with Colin Firth since Pride and Prejudice?
In contrast, last night I saw the movie Australia (2008) on television and it was truly awful, one of the worst fims I have ever seen. I really wanted to like it, but everything about the film was just wrong. I am so glad I didn't pay to see it; I only regret having wasted a few hours of my life waiting for it to improve.

We saw "Australia" when we were living as Aussie expats in Vietnam. It was embarrassing when our American colleagues spoke to us about having seen it too! I fear they may have been left with a distorted image! I would love to see "The King's Speech" but now we are in Germany and have no access to it in English. Love your blog thanks!
I saw this film a few weeks ago and thought it superior in every way. I am a big fan of these types of films. I would not be surprised to see a few Academy Awards handed out for this one.....

I saw 'Australia' on the plane last year, and then again the other night. I took it as being in the 'fantasy' genre and enjoyed it for what it was. I think expectations of something grander than that would leave a person disappointed. I had no expectations so it was OK.
I saw The Kings Speech on Sunday night, and loved it too :-)

Sorry i haven't replied to your question on the 19/1 about protecting the vegies on really hot days, i only found your question a minute ago. Since putting the drippers in place and mulching heavily, that has done alot to protect them, also where i sited the veg garden it gets some shade from early afternoon onwards. Lastly for new vegies or ones that really wilt with all this heat i place a light coloured pot over the top with a small rock on top to stop any wind blowing them off, i put the pots on in the morning and then take them off once the shade moves over (or that night if i forget). For larger areas on the really hot days i just throw some old shadecloth over with a few bricks to hold it down. So far these have worked really well for me. Hope this is of some help to you.
