The Ugly End of Summer

We're at the ugly end of summer now.  When the days are unbearably hot and the rain refuses to arrive.  When flowers and vegetables that were green and lush just a few weeks ago look tired and limp, and the lawn crackles brown beneath our feet.  When the people are as tired and limp as the plants.

The air-conditioner struggles valiantly on and makes sleep possible during long, hot nights.  Lacking energy, we do puzzles and play cards, watch TV and eat ice cream.

I felt so sad for the kids who returned to school today.  It was 43C (about 110 F) in the shade, and worse in the sun.  It was too hot for much learning, but they came home happy and excited about seeing their friends.

Tomorrow promises to only reach 33C.  After today, that's almost cool.

it didn't get above 3 degrees C here today, but a bright crispy winter's day. Your summer is lingering and our winter is lingering. I usually hope to see daffodils poking through the soil but they will be late this year. Enjoying your blog - Frugal Queen xxx

Hello Kate
Another hot one coming up as well for us in Melbourne today. Our little ones (and the big ones) don't start school till later in the week. Hopefully by then it will be slightly cooler but the unfortunately the forecast says otherwise
Maybe 'they' have made a mistake lol
Take care
Cathy

We are actually having a cooler day here in the Lower South East, so I'm sending some cool breezes your way. I said to my daughter yesterday "at least you'll be in air-con at school" Perhaps I should have gone too.

Cheers,

I'm ready for winter to be done. I have decided that if it is not going to snow than winter should just be done and let's get on with spring!

I have a puzzle just waiting here for me to do, I just haven't found time to do it.

We went back to school yesterday, a little earlier than State schools. I've been thoroughly enjoying the new a/c in Prep and the Staffroom. Even my girls are diving into the Prep room after school for a bit of a cool-off while they wait for me.

You're right. It's way too hot.
